A little history

Redlands saw some of the nation's earliest general aviation activity, with an air meet sponsored by the University of Redlands recorded in 1911. Five years later, Beryl Williams founded the Redlands Aircraft Company in town.

The city's first official airport, the Redlands Flying Inn Airport, was built in 1947 by Robert Kanaga and Austin Welch. When Kanaga was called to duty during the Korean War, the property was sold and spent time as a turkey and chicken ranch. In the late 1950s, Roy Haskins and Alexander Theos bought it and began restoring it as an aviation facility.

In the 1970s, Hughes Airwest and Golden West Airlines both flew to Redlands from Los Angeles. Today the field is home to flight schools, aircraft repair shops, EAA Chapter 845 and the Redlands Airport Association.
